A few updates.
I am currently eating what could be considered a very odd combination, but what might be entirely expected given my creative proclivity to quirkiness, and my enthusiasm for Canadian and Chinese culture. What is it, you say?
First, I was looking at some bananas that were becoming too ripe and had to be eaten. Of course, bananas have long been used in that most peculiar of delicacies known as the Peanut-Butter & Banana Sandwich.
Of course, I was having a hankering for a Chinese coconut bun – aka a “cocktail bun” or “gai mei bao”, of which I have a bag in the fridge. Then, I saw the peanut butter and thought… hmmm… you know, I wonder how peanut butter would taste in one of these? After all, peanut butter goes well in those Chinese-style hk french toasts, and they often have the same kind of coconut filling. I was also intending on heating up the cocktail bun in the microwave.
Then it dawned upon me… you know, that almost-mushy banana would fit perfectly inside one of these buns, and given that the bun is bread, I’m already putting peanut butter in/on it, and the prior existence of peanut butter banana sandwiches…… why not?
It doesn’t taste all that bad, actually. I shoulda had the bananas earlier tho – a little too mushy.

Anyway, a few updates?
Las last Thurs – first swing class. It was fun.
Last last Friday (the 10th), Megumi came down to Science World to check out the current exhibits and see evening omni. We got to chat and I showed her around until SW closed, after which we went for a walk outside and she wanted to see the new Olympic Village. Waiting for Shari to show up so we could have dinner before Omni, we walked around outside for about an hour until Shari finally got a hold of us around 6:15 (she’d called a few times around 6-6:15 and for some reason my phone hadn’t rung or vibrated). We got in Shari’s car, had dinner at this cheap Chinese place – one of two on the corner of Kingsway and Main. I got a curry chicken rice dish; didn’t finish it, ended up taking it home after. We rushed back to SW, caught Amazing Caves (about five minutes late), and then Alps. Caves was better… beautiful ice caves, underwater caves, etc… Alps was good too, but you can only see frozen precipices so many times in an hour…
After the show, Shari still had to take some photos for her photography assignments so we wandered around outside in the cold while Shari got shots of Science World and the surrounding grounds, and then around the grounds of Grand Central Station nearby. We would have shot inside but the guard didn’t allow photos in the building due to 9-11 concerns… we could take photos of people in the the building but not the building itself, oddly enough.
By then it was pretty cold and we decided to head home; Meg went with Shari and we parted ways.
Last last Sat 11th, was going to have dinner with Jane, ended up going with Megan instead since Jane wasn’t feeling hungry, and then driving both home.
This last Thursday 16th – second Swing class.
Yesterday, Sat 18th – had AV training for RF bright and early in the morning at SW with Anteneh. It was very informative and interesting… I can now work a sound mixer and set up sound systems for concerts, performances, and presentations. Cool. I was too tired and didn’t have enough time to go home after, so I had Triple O’s lunch there with Jane (Original Combo with Cheese and the new Sweet Potato Fries, spicy), napped in the lounge, and headed off at around 4:30pm to Quinton’s birthday. Of course Q’s birthday was also at a White Spot… down on SE Marine and Byrne Rd. Wasn’t too hungry so I ordered this Thai Chicken Salad… which was also quite spicy). Found out that Q/Patti’s friends Gloria & Robert (and their daughter) also knew Karen and Zhongxi through traditional chinese music at ubc and the bc chinese orchestra – Karen and Zhongxi had played at their wedding – so I took a pic of them for Karen.
By the time we finished, it was about 8:10pm, so it was too late for me to make it in time for the 8pm-9pm drop-in Swing lesson at the Legion on Commercial. I’d been looking forward to making it out, but on the way home I decided it wasn’t worth trying to make it still since I’d get there past 8:30 and since I’m still a beginner – they just taught us our first 8-count basic step on Thursday – it wouldn’t be worth it to try and go for the free swing having missed part of the drop-in. Next week I’ll try to make it.
